Major Health Partners patients can access world-class healthcare close to home, provided by people they know, and in a personal environment.
Major Health Partners provides an unusually high quality of care to patients as is evidenced by their being selected as a Thomson-Reuters Top 100 Hospital in America and their many high scores earned through patient surveys and national healthcare facility ranking firms. Though the Shelbyville-Shelby County community is fairly small, the hospital provides a level of care usually found in much larger, more affluent metropolitan areas.
Major Health Partners is facing some big challenges.
While Major Health Partners does have a strong balance sheet, there is more to the story. The average margin for U.S. hospitals is 2.6%. Major Health Partners’ margin for 2010 is 3% of revenues, while capital expenditures (technology and facilities) are budgeted for 6%. The income to cover these expenses through charges to patients is simply not there. This is true at nearly all nonprofit hospitals. The difference is made up through donations, earnings on these donations and other non-operating revenues.
